The Jacobites- Robespierre's Velvet Basement. 1985

Amazing listen. This album has some great bowie/bolan revival highlights. Really felt like listening to one of the classics right away. The opening song "Big Store" is a deliciously sour piece of satire with a kickass opening guitar riff (nerr nerrrr nerrr nerrr neeeeer neeeeerr!!!). Aside from looking like vampires, Jacobites have some of the loosest swagger of any other while still putting forth a huge amount of emotion into their songs. You have to listen to track 8 on the 2nd cd "Before I Die", while it has a much different sound to the rest of the album, still a gem. Worth every minute!!

Nico- Chelsea Girl. 1967

I can't get the first two songs of this album out of my head, so in doing this, I am temporarily banishing them from my hum track! No drums, no bass, just simple orchestral arrangements at the most. It's pretty folky, but more than that its just a hands down beautiful listen.

Neu!- Neu!. 1972

Neu!, great early krautrock, great listen. Its quite a trip fest for the most part mostly containing very simple and looping themes, which consequently induce the almighty TRANCE MODE. I felt like I took a ton of qualudes or something, the beat is SO consistent and the musical tangents they walk you through are so comfortable. Every other track goes between a complete cluster fuck of experimental noise, to a swirled mix of dreamy popiness, all keeping a forced precise beat. Kraftwerk, Stereolab fans... this is when you scream in excitement. Highly recommended.

Beach House- Self Titled & Devotion. 2006 & 2008

"The delicate, languid, minimalist pop of Baltimore duo Beach House's "Devotion" is a glimmering dream. These love songs creep forward in bossa nova rhythms and even meters like they're chasing after a slowly receding tide. Victoria Legrand sings in a cave-echoed voice that bridges between a sort of one-room-over ethereality and a pungent melody, gliding over the mix (drums, piano, and organ, mostly) like a low-hanging cloud, stretching her words into near incomprehensibility. Her high, breathy peaks on "Turtle" are charmingly imperfect, while "Gila"'s slide guitar dances with her voice like a returned lover, hopelessly devoted." - Michael Byrne

Midnight Movies- Self Titled. 2004

Huge fan of this band. I had no clue until I started this entry, but these guys already have another album that just came out a little bit ago, o well, we are sticking with the self titled. With a great voice, stereo lab retro-ness, dark overtones... the album is extremely pleasing. The range of style is really fun to keep up with, from psychedelic pop to sullen looping madness. The female singer has a cello'd voice that could be easily compared to Nico's, as I'm sure it is. This album for me is a lazy sunday arnold palmer alone time kinda high kick album. I've been helping my brother move out recently and this one takes the cake for being relaxing enough to settle down to, yet interesting enough to not nod off at the same time.

Iggy & The Stooges- The Stooges. 1969

Not the most influential album that The Stooges ever came out with, but certainly a very important album nonetheless. This gave Iggy the setting for a good solid album that has some really great moments. The Songs "Real Cool Time" and "No Fun" really seemed aimed at an apathetic youth with a good round of repetitive and sarcastic lyrics:

I say we will have a real cool time tonight.
I say we will have a real cool time tonight.
I say we will have a real cool time tonight.
I say we will have a real cool time tonight.
I say we will have a real cool time tonight.
This kind of message to its extent wasn't ever produced before, and in its overly aggressive simplistic manner, had a huge effect on people.

Iggy was mostly known for his energetic and manic performances, and while there are many of these moments on this release there are only two songs that show the band's more experimental take on music, with "We Will Fall" and "Ann". A truly interesting listen if you can time warp back around 40 years. Recommended!

a famous quote by iggy in a tv interview, it reads:

I don't know Jonny Rotten, but I'm sure he puts as much blood and sweat into what he does as Sigmund Freud did. You see, what sounds to you like a big load of trashy old noise is in fact the brilliant music of a genius: myself. And that music is so powerful that it's quite beyond my control, and when I'm in the grips of it I don't feel pleasure and I don't feel pain , either physically or emotionally. Do you understand what i'm talking about? Have you ever felt like that? When you just couldn't feel anything and you didn't want to either. You know? Like that? Do you understand what i'm saying sir?
