Sleep- Sleep's Holy Mountain. 1993

The opening song calls forth so much fantasy fiction your fingers will ignite. This album alone totally threw me off my musical course over the last summer, from a electronic driven mind set, to a whole awakening of new undiscovered genres of stoner/ sludge/ drone/ psychedelic rock, metal, whatever you want to call it. Even though I was already heading in this direction, Halloween seems like a good time to let everyone loose on this one.

The shear size of old "classic" rock (and the variety of its entirety) that can be uncovered is unreal.. and I'm not talking about the main stream gutter feed of Peter Frampton, REO Speedwagon, and Alice Cooper "classic". I'm guess I'm trying to say there is such a thing as alternative classic rock, and it isn't a number one "Hot Blooded, Sweet Home Alabama" crap fest. The amount of really amazing elder music recorded is almost impossible to keep track of, just have to look for it.

Following that path, this album most definitely takes on a molasses thick and heavy like quality. The patience it took to stick with songs.... this.......... slow................... is remarkable. The wall of sound and amount of constant low notage actually takes an ethereal form and whimsically guides you to every "last stand" epic ever created, all at the same time. The amount of doominess thrown in this whole concoction gives you just enough of a bad-ass horse rider adrenaline rush to stay conscious to see the entire thing. Great album.

Acid Burns & Druggy Grooves. 2007

This is some great mixing of some great long lost pychedelia. The songs take nasty a drum beat here, with a bumpin' base line there, and a trippy guitar from down here, and make a very little 3 minute sound journey revolving around drug use and most of the following: mind-explosion, mind-expansion, mind-alteration, and/or multi-colored amazingness. On top of the music, there are entertaining sound bites inserted throughout the music of old recorded interviews or conversations of drug users and their experiences. The whole album is pretty much wrapped up in the title, ta da.

The Clientele- Suburban Light. 2000

This band is jam packed with nostalgia. The music itself is extremely relaxing and distant, rainy day music for sure. After a good listen, you'll consistently smile and think to yourself "Well that was pleasant." I was lucky enough to see them live in LA a bit back. Aside from the jaw dropping violinist, the band was extremely successful at giving off that warm fuzzy feeling most of their albums have before. I chose to post suburban light because I really like sound quality that makes the music feel like the album cover.

Radiohead- In Rainbows. 2007

This self released album "In Rainbows" is not only satisfying knowing its, oh my god, oh my god, its Radiohead, but that the album itself is actually a great listen the entire way through. The ups and downs of the record flow nicely as to having a very calculated time scale on the whole, getting right to the point with the song 15 Step. After listening to this record until my ears bled sweet sweet blissfulness I'd have to say, get it get it get it now do it.
